The 2026 FIFA World Cup is preparing for an unprecedented opening in the tournament’s history, with three opening ceremonies taking place across the host countries: Mexico, Canada, and the United States, in a large continental celebration that brings together football, music, culture, and entertainment.

For the first time, the World Cup opening will not be limited to a single city, as the celebrations will be distributed between Mexico City on June 11, Toronto and Los Angeles on June 12, under a unified concept: “One Beat”, expressing the rhythm of the game, the energy of the players, and the passion of millions of fans around the world.

Mexico launches the first note

The celebrations begin in Mexico City on Thursday, June 11, 90 minutes before the opening match between Mexico and South Africa.

The ceremony will carry a distinctly Mexican character through music, dance, and performance arts, featuring prominent names including Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, and Tylah.

The golden trophy will be reimagined in its Mexican version through the art of “papel picado,” or cut paper, as a symbol of Mexican tradition, joy, and craftsmanship.

Toronto celebrates Canada’s diversity

The following day, attention turns to Toronto, where Canada will host its opening ceremony on Friday, June 12, at 13:30 local time, before the match between Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina, marking the first time the Canadian men’s national team plays a World Cup match at home.

The ceremony will feature a number of global stars, including Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Eliana, Jessie Reyez, Michael Bublé, Nora Fatehi, Sanjay, Vegedream, and William Prince.

The Canadian edition of the ceremony reflects the country’s diversity by reimagining the golden trophy as a mosaic, symbolizing the peoples, cultures, and communities that make up Canada’s identity.

Los Angeles concludes the opening celebrations with global stars

The United States will welcome the world from Los Angeles, the entertainment capital, on Friday, June 12, in a grand ceremony ahead of the match between the United States and Paraguay.

The ceremony will be headlined by some of the biggest names in global music, including Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, Lisa, Rema, and Tyla, with additional names expected to be announced later.

The Los Angeles ceremony is expected to reflect the scale and cultural ambition of the tournament through a large visual and musical performance that blends the identity of the city, the spirit of the United States, and the global influence of music and pop culture.

Infantino: music, culture, and football in one moment

FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that the three opening ceremonies will reflect the unique character of each host country, while highlighting the spirit of unity on which the tournament is based.

He noted that these celebrations will bring together music, culture, and football to form a powerful start to “the greatest show on Earth,” from Mexico City to Toronto and Los Angeles.

Fans at the heart of the experience

FIFA also called on fans to arrive early at stadiums, as the opening ceremonies will begin 90 minutes before kick-off, while gates will open four hours in advance, giving spectators the opportunity to enjoy entertainment activities, live experiences, prizes, and special events before the opening whistle.

A record-breaking World Cup across 16 cities

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be a historic edition featuring 104 matches across 16 host cities, starting on June 11 in Mexico City, and concluding with the final on Sunday, July 19 at the New York New Jersey stadium.

Between music, diverse cultures, and the presence of global stars, the 2026 World Cup seems set not to begin only on the pitch, but across stages spanning an entire continent.
