UAE Armed Forces celebrate 50 years of unification, leadership, and global missions
Marking five decades since the unification of the UAE Armed Forces, a pivotal decision that transformed the country’s defense structure into one of the most modern and coordinated military systems in the region.

What do we know about the unification of the UAE Armed Forces?
The sixth of May each year is one of the most significant national milestones in the history of the United Arab Emirates.
On this day in 1976, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his brothers, members of the Supreme Council of the Union, made a strategic decision to unify the Armed Forces, thereby ushering in a new phase in building a unified and strong national army, considered today one of the strongest in the region, according to the WAM agency.
The Land Forces form the backbone of the Emirati defense system, having succeeded in developing the "smart maneuver" concept based on swift movement and accurate information, while modern armored systems, artillery platforms, and ground reconnaissance systems are linked by digital command and control networks, allowing real-time data exchange between different units.
The Air Force represents one of the key elements of the UAE's strategic deterrent, possessing multi-role aircraft capable of executing long-range operations, as well as providing precise air support to ground and naval forces.
The UAE Armed Forces have participated in numerous missions since 1976, including the Arab Deterrent Forces in Lebanon, the Peninsula Shield Forces during the liberation of Kuwait in 1991, the “Restore Hope” operation in Somalia, in addition to humanitarian and relief operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Turkey, and Gaza.
