The Jordanian army announced in a statement on Sunday that it targeted sites belonging to arms and drug dealers along its northern borders.

The statement said: "The Jordanian Armed Forces carried out 'Jordanian Deterrent Operation' early Sunday morning, targeting several locations of arms and drug dealers on the northern border front of the kingdom," adding that "the operation targets factories, workshops, and warehouses from where arms and drug dealers operate towards Jordanian territories." The statement did not mention Syria by name.

The statement explained that "the armed forces identified, based on intelligence and operational information, the locations of the factories, workshops, and warehouses used by these groups as launch points for their operations towards Jordanian territories, targeting and destroying them."

The army confirmed that "the targeting operations were carried out with the highest precision to prevent drugs and weapons from reaching Jordanian territories."

It pointed out that "these groups are exploiting new patterns of activity, taking advantage of the weather conditions and current regional circumstances to conduct their operations," adding that "the number of attempts to smuggle weapons and drugs has increased significantly, posing a major challenge to the border guard forces."

The statement concluded that "the armed forces will continue to proactively and decisively deal with any threats to the kingdom's security and sovereignty."

In turn, Syrian state television reported that "Jordanian airstrikes targeted a hub containing weapons and drugs in the province of Sweida, some parts of which are outside the control of Damascus authorities."

The official TV quoted local sources as saying that "airstrikes by warplanes, likely Jordanian, targeted a hub containing weapons and drugs controlled by rebel gangs in the village of Shahba in Sweida."

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated that one of the airstrikes targeted the perimeter of a local security headquarters near the town of Shahba, noting varying reports on the extent of the damage.
