After becoming a striking visual landmark in Las Vegas, Sphere is preparing for a new step in Abu Dhabi, where work is underway to build an advanced version of this entertainment landmark in a project expected to strengthen the capital of the United Arab Emirates as a global destination for culture and innovation.

The facility, whose first version opened in 2023, has redefined the relationship between audiences and live performances thanks to a massive LED facade that wraps around the building and an immersive interior experience with a full 360-degree view, supported by interactive technologies that include sound, vibrations, and sensory effects, according to The National.

In its upcoming version, Abu Dhabi is betting on developing this concept by offering experiences that blend art and technology, without yet announcing the final location or the opening date.

The official Sphere Vegas account on the platform X announced the expected collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi in a post that said: Sphere Entertainment Company, in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, has announced a partnership aimed at building the second Sphere in the world in Abu Dhabi.

It added: The Sphere Abu Dhabi project is expected to become a major addition to the capital’s global standing by enhancing the entertainment experiences offered to both residents and visitors, while delivering an unprecedented experience for events, concerts, and shows within an innovative and exceptional environment.

Abu Dhabi… another step toward global prominence

Sphere is not limited to being a concert hall; it offers a new model in the entertainment industry, where performances are transformed into a fully immersive sensory experience that surrounds the audience from all directions. This shift is also reflected in how content is produced, as artists now design their works to fit this interactive space rather than relying on a traditional stage.

The project comes as part of Abu Dhabi’s expansion of major cultural developments, including the Saadiyat Cultural District, which further strengthens its position as a regional and international hub for the arts. With ongoing technological advancement, Sphere Abu Dhabi is expected to offer an even more sophisticated experience that could redefine global standards for live performances.

It is worth noting that Sphere’s presence in Las Vegas has not been limited to technical innovation; it has also translated into record-breaking figures. It topped the list of the highest-grossing entertainment venues in the world after attracting around 1.7 million visitors in one year, generating revenues of 379 million dollars, according to Pollstar.
