The Alumni of Saint Joseph University and College Notre Dame de Jamhour extended their condolences over the passing of former Maronite Patriarch Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir in a statement released Thursday.

The Alumni Association of the College of Saint Joseph University and College Notre-Dame de Jamhour said it is saddened by the passing of His Beatitude and Eminence the Patriarch of Antioch and the Whole Levant Cardinal Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir.

Sfeir was a former student of College Notre-Dame De Jamhour, previously known as College of Saint Joseph University, and graduated in 1944.

His message to the students of the College was: "Lebanon awaits you. Lebanon relies on you, and you are its hope. Live up to your country's expectations and hold on to your beliefs. Make sacrifices for your nation, so that it always remains proud and independent."

This message will forever remain entrenched in the alumni's collective memories and will be passed down from generation to generation.

The Association extended to the Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Rai, the Bishops, the members of the Maronite Synod and the entire Maronite community in Lebanon and throughout the world, and to all Lebanese, its most sincere condolences.
