BEIRUT: Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil filed a lawsuit Thursday against London-based Saudi news website, accusing the outlet of slander and defamation.

Bassil filed the lawsuit with the Mount Lebanon Public Prosecutor after Elaph claimed that he met with an Israeli official during a recent visit to Moscow.

Quoting a source, Elaph said the Russia-sponsored two-hour discussions touched on the maritime dispute between Lebanon and Israel, Iranian missile factories in Lebanon and the ongoing civil war in Syria, among other topics.

The Israeli official reportedly told Bassil that Israel does not consider Lebanon an enemy, but will not hesitate to target Iran and Hezbollah’s interests in Lebanon.
