BEIRUT: More than 300 students and academic teachers attended Friday the First Italian – Lebanese Science Day.

After almost 12 years of collaboration between the Italian University of Palermo and the American University of Beirut (AUB), in partnership with the Lebanese Association for the Advancement of Science (LAAS) and with the collaboration of the National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS-L), it was held the First Italian-Lebanese Science Day, at the Issam Fares Hall of the American University of Beirut.

The Ambassador of Italy, H.E. Massimo Marotti, attended the event, and took part to the official signing of the new inter university international memorandum of agreement carried on by Dr. Fabrizio Micari, Rector of the University of Palermo, and Dr. Fadlo Khuri, President of the American University of Beirut.

Over the years, 30 scientific articles were published thanks to the cooperation between Palermo University and the American University of Beirut. The two Universities exchanged teachers and students. 5 Lebanese students attended Palermo University for the PhD in International Research in Biomedical and Neurosciences. The next goal would be the creation of a joint course for a double degree by the two universities.

The Italian – Lebanese Science Day will recur from now on every year, held alternatively in Italy and in Lebanon.
