BEIRUT, Lebanon: Karma Ekmekji, diplomatic advisor of Prime Minister Saad Hariri joined the Network of Mediterranean Women Mediators (MWMN). On this occassion, the Italian Ambassador Massimo Marotti congratulated Ekmekji on Tuesday.

Ambassador Marotti stressed that “Ekmekji will be a valuable asset for the group of capable international mediators from the extended Mediterranean region.”

A statement released by the Italian Embassy in Lebanon mentioned that MWMN “enjoys now a new balanced and thoughtful Lebanese mediator able to understand the complex dimension of conflicts,” adding that she is “able to work to advance comprehensive and constructive solutions for dialogue in post-conflict situations”.

MWMN was launched in Rome on October 26, 2017. A multigenerational group of approximately 40 women mediators and experts from the shores of the Mediterranean Sea came together and agreed on the adoption of the “Founding Principles and Declaration of Intent” of the network.

The Mediterranean Women Mediators Network is a catalyst for mediation efforts in ongoing and potential crises and post-conflict stabilization and processes.

The Network operates in close cooperation with the UN and the UN Department for Political Affairs, which manages a roster of mediation experts, and with civil society.
