BEIRUT: Concrete security barriers set up in front of the Interior Ministry were removed Tuesday under orders of former Interior Minister Nohad Machnouk, his office said.

However, the office of his successor Raya El Hassan maintained that the order was issued by El Hassan herself on Monday morning, to take place following the handover of ministries.

"The decision was taken place to alleviate traffic and ease the movement of citizens," a statement released by her office said.

On Monday, newly appointed ministers took over a number of ministries vacated by their predecessors.
