BEIRUT: A Lebanese man stranded in Ecuador for more than three weeks was finally issued a new passport, the Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday.

The man, identified as Hussain Shalak, found himself stranded at the José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport in Ecuador after being returned from Barcelona, Spain where he was denied asylum. He had no passport or identification documents upon his return according to local authorities, according to the statement quoting Lebanon's ambassador to Colombia.

After news emerged of his predicament, Lebanon's Embassy in Colombia issued him a new passport after gathering his information from the airline he boarded.
