BEIRUT: Colombian international superstar Shakira will not be performing in Tel Aviv prior to her show in Bchareh, Lebanon, according to a clarification statement released by the event promoter managing her El Dorado world tour.
In a tweet posted Monday, the California based Live Nation said that “the media has incorrectly reported that Shakira will be performing in Tel Aviv this summer.”
“While no dates this summer will work, Shakira and Live Nation hope to bring a show to her fans in Israel in the future,” the company added.
Certain media reports had indicated that Shakira was scheduled to perform in Tel Aviv which sparked an outcry across different social media outlets, with the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS) mobilizing to thwart the event.
Yet the news was merely speculation, with Shakira’s official website showing no date in Tel Aviv.
Shakira is of Lebanese origins and has performed in her ancestral home back in 2011, expressing her “proud Lebanese heritage.”
In a statement released earlier this month, CIF announced that Shakira would be part of the opening ceremony on Friday, July 13, in line with the festival's goal to "honor national figures and symbols."
The festival is "seeking to attract expats and locals, along with fellow Arabs, to bolster Lebanon's tourism sector."
