BEIRUT: Facebook has taken down Hezbollah's electoral campaign page, in line with US regulations.

Facebook, a US-based company, took down the page after it was reported by a member of the public, a source from Social Media Exchange (SMEX) told Annahar.

SMEX is a registered Lebanese NGO that works to advance self-regulating information societies in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Hezbollah is designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the US, and has faced numerous sanctions over the years.

In October of 2017, the US renewed sanctions on the group, putting forth a bill that extends restrictions on fundraising for Hezbollah, along with passing an additional draft law that condemns the party for deploying missiles in civilian neighborhoods.
