BEIRUT: President Michel Aoun has accepted the resignation of one of his close aides, journalist Jean Aziz, two weeks after the latter launched a verbal attack on former Education Minister and current foreign affairs advisor to the president, Elias Bou Saab, accusing him of corruption.

Aziz, who acts as the news director of OTV -- a TV channel founded by Aoun's Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) -- used the introduction of a nightly news bulletin on January 28, 2018, to attack Bou Saab, alleging that he squandered public funds during his tenure as Education Minister.

This political infighting between members of the FPM led Aoun to request Aziz's resignation as media advisor last week, a source told Annahar.
