BEIRUT: Syrian singer Assala Nasri has been released on bail after being detained at Beirut's airport on Sunday for possession of cocaine, a security source told Annahar.
Security forces found a few grams of cocaine in Nasri’s makeup kit, the source said.
Nasri, who was bound for Egypt, said that the cocaine was planted into her bag without her knowledge in an attempt to tarnish her reputation.
The source, however, said Nasri was subject to drug tests that were positive, noting that the cocaine was likely intended for personal use.
Mount Lebanon Public Prosecutor Judge Claude Karam released Nasri on bail as security forces pursue investigations into the case.
After boarding a plane bound to Egypt, the singer posted a picture on her Instagram account with the caption “Thank God” in Arabic.
Nasri is a staunch critic of Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime.
