BEIRUT: An Internal Security Forces corporal shot dead Friday an armed robber and injured his accomplice in a botched bank heist in Beirut's southern suburbs.

The two gunmen had stormed into a Credit Libanais bank's branch along the Hadi Nasrallah Highway in Haret Hreik where they fired shots in the air and threatened employees at gunpoint.

The Corporal who was identified by his initials, H.A., was standing outside the bank when he heard gunshots and bank employees screaming for help, prompting him to storm into the bank and open fire at the two gunmen, fatally killing one assailant and injuring the other.

The wounded robber was transferred to Burj Al-Barajneh police station for questioning.
