BEIRUT: Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri confirmed on Sunday a report by Al-Hadath TV that an explosion had occurred last week in the vicinity of his convoy.

A rocket exploded 500 meters away from former prime minister Saad Hariri's 30-car convoy during a trip he took the Bekaa Valley 11 days ago, Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya Al Hadath reported quoting Lebanese sources.

According to Hariri’s media office, the former Prime Minister was informed by security services that an explosion occurred in the area on the same day he visited Bekaa, but since the convoy was not subject to any attack, and to avoid any attempt to exploit the incident in light of the prevailing tension, “his decision was to remain quiet about the matter and await the results of the investigation of the concerned security services.”

Details surrounding the event remain unclear, but LBCI reported that the results of the investigation may be released as early as Monday.
