BEIRUT: U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale arrived in Lebanon Friday, a day after President Michel Aoun designated a Hezbollah-backed candidate head a new Cabinet.

Under Secretary Hale, who served as U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon from 2013-2015, will meet with top Lebanese officials.

Hale will underscore America’s commitment to its partnership with Lebanon and encourage political leaders to commit to the necessary reforms that can lead to a stable, prosperous, and secure country, a statement by the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon said.
